Owen Daly Tournament Victory for St. Mary’s PS!

Today the boys from St. Mary’s Primary School were winners of the Owen Daly Football Tournament, contested by 18 local schools from the Ballymena area.

The P7 boys produced a superb display throughout the competition, remaining unbeaten in their 8 group games — winning seven and drawing once — to top the table with an impressive 22 out of 24 points. Every one of the 13 players contributed to the team’s success, showing outstanding skill, teamwork, and spirit.

A tense semi-final against neighbours Portglenone PS ended in a draw after normal and extra time, before St. Mary’s held their nerve in a dramatic penalty shoot-out to reach the final.

The final against Gracehill PS was another tight battle, finishing 0–0 in normal time. In Golden Goal extra time, the boys’ relentless pressure paid off with a superb team goal to secure the tournament title!

Every player was a credit to St. Mary’s, demonstrating excellent manners, sportsmanship, and determination throughout the day. A fantastic achievement — and hopefully the first of many successes this year.
