🏆 ANTRIM PRIMARY SCHOOL CHAMPIONS🏆

Our school team finally got to play in the Antrim area final this week. They travelled to Dunloy, on Tuesday, to play St Joseph’s primary school, who had already beaten the Belfast school’s representatives. A good warm up, team talks and tactics were all covered and everyone was given their jobs. A slow start for the boys saw them trailing by 8 points. This quickly turned around as the boys upped their game to storm into the lead, with a couple of goals and some points, put on the board in quick succession. Every player running the length and width to track their opponents and support their team mates. Patchy red faces struggling for breath glared at the sideline! Final whistle blew and the boys dropped to the grass, barely able to celebrate having giving it their all to win by 6 points. Some not knowing they had won! St Joseph’s really made them all work for the win. Gracious in their win the teams lined up and congratulated each other on a fantastic game. Both teams putting on a  fantastic display of football. The boys couldn’t wait to get back to school to show of their win and trophy 🏆. What an amazing achievement at such a young age. There was little time to celebrate. The team had made it through to the Ulster primary school finals… the next day!!!

ULSTER PRIMARY SCHOOL FINALS

Kits brought home, washed and ready for the next day! A very quick turnaround from all the mummies, thank you 😊 Nerves and team tactics were chatted about on the bus journey up to Meadowbank on Wednesday just before lunch. We were placed in Group A , coming up against Fermanagh, Monaghan and Donegal. The skills on display from our boys were superb. Quick changes of pace, dipping the shoulder, charging right by their opponents, taking 2 touches when needed and playing the give and go to charge forward with our boys scoring 3-3 against Fermanagh, 6-0 against Monaghan and 4-2 in the Donegal match to win all three games. We then faced the Tyrone team loosing 0-1 to 0-5. Three massive saves by the Tyrone keeper give them the win. Everyone of our players worked to the very last whistle, just as they had in all their other games. We couldn’t have asked any more of them. They are all such talented footballers for age ten and eleven! This is a result of the hard work and commitment they have given to their club and school from they were able to play. Watching them play is as exciting as playing! We hope they relish and savour their achievements and memories made as Antrim Champions and Ulster finalists. WE ARE SO VERY PROUD. Some ice lollies and juice lifted their spirits on the way home and they even managed a little sing along 🎤. A big thank you to their coaches at Roger Casement’s for supporting them on the day and their after school training. Thank you also the David Mulgrew who has been coaching the boys after schools now for two years, he couldn’t make it on the day but texted many times to keep track of their progress.
